17 July 2026: Just after NAIDOC Week but very much apposite is the proposal to rename the Tasmanian House of Representatives seat of Franklin as Tongerlongeter in honour of the First Nations warrior. Tongerlongeter features in the Henry Reynolds and Nick Clements book of that name.
NAIDOC Week on the ABC featured Rachel Perkins from 2022 talking about her documentary series, The Australian Wars (2022), more recently a book edited by Perkins, Henry Reynolds, Stephen Gapps and Mina Murray. There was also Emma Donovan and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, music from 50 Years of Deadly: the Block Party, historian Professor Jackie Huggins on First Nations history, and Daniel James and guests on that NAIDOC Week theme, 50 Years of Deadly, plus lots more.
